Why does my carpet smell after steam cleaning?

The main reason a carpet smells bad after cleaning is that the backing is still wet. If the carpet doesn't dry properly, it becomes vulnerable to mould and mildew, which can cause the musty smell and even be a health hazard. Bad odours should disappear once the carpet dries fully.

Why does my carpet smell after using carpet cleaner?

Perhaps, the vacuuming machine that the cleaner used didn't carry enough power to suck out excess moisture from the carpets. It is also possible the cleaner might have moved the vacuuming machine too fast, or they set the water pressure way too high.

Why does my carpet smell like pee after steam cleaning?

Carpets that contain dried urine don't always smell because the concentration wasn't high prior to cleaning, or has been in the carpet long enough to air out. When water hits the carpet two things happen. First, the bacteria and ammonia in the urine reactivate. Second, the water causes the urine to spread out further.

How long does it take for carpet to stop smelling after cleaning?

Things like food spills, animal urine, and other stinky messes can soak into the padding underneath. As the area was cleaned, the stain was wet again and reactivated the leftover particles. Typically, these odors will dissipate within two days of carpet cleaning.

Treat your carpet with a mixture of one cup of white vinegar and two cups of warm water. Use a spray bottle to gently mist over the carpet. An ode to the tiny little local appliance store, who actively dissuaded me from giving them money, much to my benefit

I woke up yesterday (Friday) to a room-temperature fridge and rapidly spoiling groceries. Called everything that came up locally for a Google Maps search on "appliances" only to be told "we only fix what we sold" (my fridge came with my house, so I have no idea on its origins, but it isn't THAT old - maybe 10 years).

Every time I hit the big box store, I always check wood prices regardless of what I'm there for. My jaw nearly hit the floor today

If your projects have been "shelved" (heh) due to high construction grade wood prices, it might be worth checking in again. I truly never thought we'd see these prices again. Not all of it is back down to earth where I live (desert southwest), but enough of it has come down that price isn't the problem anymore.

Long time reader, first time caulker. What do I need to know about caulks?

I’ve told by a pest control guy to seal a few gaps (e.g. window sill) in my home. I was thinking of buying a clear silicone caulk and applying it. It seems to be straightforward from my perspective, but I feel naive. Is that all there’s to it? Do I need any tools to make it look good and not make a mess?

First fence build - board on board around my yard. Super happy with the end result and wanted to share it

Over the last 6 weeks I've been building a fence in my yard to keep my dogs in as they get tangled when both leashed. Total hands on time was about 3 weeks but there was a delay in getting the rails and pickets of about 3 weeks so it held me up but I worked all weekends and most evenings for about 3 weeks. Fence was about 135 linear feet.
